This area of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve rolls out incredible views with moderate hikes and rolling hills for your bicycles. It’s a no-brainer; a day out in Grandview Valley is a day you’ll cherish forever.
We’ve broken down some top places to go, what to expect, and how to make the most of your trip. So, lace up your boots, because here we go!

Hiking Trails That’ll Get You Movin’
With a bunch of overlooks and quick access to nature, it’s not hard to see the appeal of spending half a day or longer hiking treks in West Virginia. Depending on your skill level and how much water you’re bringing, here are some top trails for you to venture on:
1. Grandview Rim Trail
- Distance: 3.2-miles round trip
- Difficulty: Easy to moderate
- Why should you go: This one is classic. It goes along the edge of the gorge, with several stopping points along the way.
2. Castle Rock Trail
- Distance: 0.6 miles
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Why should you go: It’s short but worthwhile. You’ll find yourself moving through sandstone cliffs and passages that feel like they’re out of a movie. Plus, it connects with the Rim Trail, so you can keep going if you’re so inclined.
3. Tunnel Trail
- Distance: 0.5 miles
- Difficulty: Easy
- Why should you go: It’s an easy trail, best for families with little ones. The main highlight is a rock tunnel that kids (and adults) love crawling through and exploring.
4. Big Branch Trail
- Distance: 2.0 miles
- Difficulty: Hard
- Why should you go: Big Branch Trail may be strenuous, but the waterfall is especially exciting at the end.

Racing Down the Bike Trails
Within a short drive of Grandview, there are several sections perfect for your two-wheeled friend. There’s something for every type, from mountain bikers to casual riders.
1. Stone Cliff Trail
- Distance: 2.7-miles one way
- Surface: Gravel
- Why you should ride: This relaxed trail runs along the New River, perfect for both traditional bikes and Class 1 e-bikes. If you’re taking your family out for a ride, this is the stop for you.
2. Southside Trail
- Distance: 7 miles one way
- Surface: Crushed stone and dirt
- Why you should ride: A great path for beginner mountain bikers, the trail has gentle climbs, with incredible views along the way.
3. Arrowhead Trails (Fayetteville)
- Distance: 12.8 miles of various loops
- Surface: Single track
- Why you should ride: Built by the Boy Scouts (so you know it’s sturdy), these are some of the best rides in the state. There are a variety of trail types, suited for every skill level.
Make sure to check your tire pressure and brake pads before you go, so you don’t find out the hard way that they are bad. Additionally, bring a bike lock if you plan to explore any of the sections on foot.

Packing the Essentials
In order to make the most of your time hiking or biking in Grandview Valley, it’s important that you bring the following:

- First-aid kit
- Map or GPS
